Meet Alix

Serial tripper looking for the perfect spot

Since when did you start?

My father fell in love with windsurfing in the early 80s. I followed him with passion since I was 8 or 9 years old...

Very young, I was immediately hooked on this sport. At first I saw it more as a fun summer activity, but soon I wanted to sail all year round. I then practiced windsurfing in a more serious way and today, it's a real way of life requiring a thorough work on my physical condition to enjoy the sessions to the maximum.

To sum up, it's my life guideline... I windsurf as soon as I get a breath of air...

Home Spot :

Today, my schedule is divided between sailing on my Home-Spot in Normandy (Asnelles - Arromanches and Courseulles north of Caen (Normandy / France)) and traveling (see below).

I know well the numerous spots around my home. Each spot has its own characteristics. Some in Normandy (like Asnelles or Courseulles) are excellent because we are at home. We sail with friends in nice little waves but it's cold in winter !

If surfer :

1- Regular, 2 - Reef, 3 - Epoxy

Athlete's routine :

Before each session, I spend more and more time warming up and stretching.

This allows me to get into the action better and to be at 100% immediately. It also prevents me from hurting myself and all kinds of tendonitis and soreness.

When I have time (or can take the time), I do a stretching session when I get out of the water.

Your idol :

I don't really have an idol, but I admit that I would like to look like some people in a few years, like for example Robby NAISH (who in spite of his age is still at the top)...

Favourite music to warm up before a session :

Any kind of music, as long as it is good and rhythmic...

Favourite dish :

Without hesitation, a trout with a green salad and some vegetables... and a huge cheese platter to follow...

Awards / achievements :

I don't do many competitions, but rather travel around the world in search of new spots and beautiful waves...

To be clear, I do competitions when I have the opportunity. Two years ago (just before the confinements), I participated in the French wave championship in Cherbourg (Siouville / Cotentin).

I always finished in the middle of the ranking on the contests I entered. But I'm not a big fan for several reasons: not in the right frame of mind, often not optimal conditions...

In short, not really my thing...

On the other hand, I often windsurfed big waves (4 to 6 meters) in Maui, Mauritius or Reunion Island.

Destinations of your travels :

Traveling around the world about 5 months a year, alone or more and more with my family, I'm always looking for destinations offering unique landscapes, enriching encounters and waveriding on perfect spots.

I'm starting to know a lot of spots around the world. Some of them are great for riding in great windy conditions (like in Morocco, South Africa, Colombia or Canary Islands), or for pure surfing (like in Cape Verde), or for a great compromise between family and heavenly conditions (Mauritius and Maui) or for the atmosphere combining windsurfing and fiesta (like in Jericoacoara in Brazil)! To conclude, I always want to travel and I always have a lot of projects and destinations in mind (it keeps me motivated!)

Fun facts :

I admit I have several... From the fear while taking a wave to the euphoria between friends, I don't have enough fingers to count them. But I think that one memory has marked me more than the others. It was in 2009, on the Hookipa spot, when we (my wife and I) were living in Maui (Hawaii). I found myself on a wave with Robby NAISH to my windward and Jason POLAKOW to my leeward, two personalities in the industry. Robby gave me a sign to give me the right of way... I went into the surf first, Robby followed me and Jason last. No one bothered and we surfed this wave all 3 of us, marking me for life!

To conclude :
